Frankland Estate 'Olmo's Reward' Cabernet Franc Blend 2022

Frankland Estate 'Olmo's Reward' Cabernet Franc Blend 2022

  • TASTING NOTE: "Cabernet franc bolstered by a drop of cabernet sauvignon and a splash of mourvèdre, aged in puncheons and 1500L foudre for 15 months. As always, this is smart and stylish. It promises a wave of aromatics and flavour, delivering all in harmony: blood plums, licorice, warm earth, ironstone, Asian salted plums, dried herbs and more besides. The fuller-bodied palate is caressed by textural tannins and fine acidity. Complex and classy. Lovely." 96 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday
  • ABOUT THE WINE: All varieties used in the blend were dry-grown on mature vines in the Isolation Ridge Vineyard at Frankland Estate. The vineyard sits on an undulating northern and eastern facing slope on ancient duplex soils of gravel and loam over a clay sub-soil. It is farmed using organic viticultural practices (certified organic in 2009) and this is reflected in the depth and concentration of fruit flavours. Cabernet Franc is the hero of this blend from our 1988 plantings in our Winery and North Pole blocks, with supporting roles from some of our best vineyard parcels of other red varieties.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In a 1955 study of potential grape growing sites, renowned Californian viticulturalist Dr Harold Olmo identified Frankland River as one of the most promising prospects in Australia. The wines of Frankland Estate prove he was right. Founded in 1988 by Judi Cullam and Barrie Smith, this is indisputably one of the nation's most important and consistent cool climate producers. Since 2010, second-generation winemaker Hunter Smith has been joined in the winery by brother-in-law Brian Kent. Hunter and Brian have re-focused on every detail of their organically farmed vineyard and winery operation, with their entire suite of wines (Estate, Single Vineyard and flagship Smith-Cullam wines) garnering even more attention for this benchmark Great Southern producer.
